The Tools to Teach

I’ve been studying Arabic for as long as I can remember. As a child, my parents sent my siblings and me to Islamic school on the weekends. Part of the curriculum, of course, was learning the Arabic language. The language materials we had were dated books and posters created by our teachers. The lack of resources didn’t exactly instill a sense of excitement or passion in many of the students, but it didn’t discourage me from continuing my studies.

I continued studying Arabic at DePaul University, Chicago and received a Secondary Education degree specializing in Teaching Arabic as a Foreign Language. I joined the Chicago Public Schools as an Arabic Teacher and wanted to create a learning environment that was not only bright and welcoming, but also engaging to my 21st century learners. My hunt for resources spanned throughout the U.S. and the Middle East. I searched high and low for classroom decorations and resources that were new, exciting and engaging; beautiful resources similar to those I saw in my colleagues French and Spanish classrooms. Sadly, such items did not exist for Arabic; everything was dated and dull. My students also noticed the lack of contemporary resources. It made them feel as if the language they chose to study was not as important as the others offered. 

Since then, I’ve dedicated myself to creating stylish, interesting and effective posters that can be used for Arabic language learners of all ages and abilities both in and out of the classroom. These posters can be used to decorate a home or school classroom, a playroom, nursery...the options are endless and I cannot wait to see how you use our resources to bring your space to life.
